Sailing Courses

U.S. SAILING has posted a FREE online comprehensive educational training site for student sailors at www.sailingcourse.com. Housed on this website are four boating courses. (Sailing Primer, Keelboat Course, Cruising Course and Power- boat Course.) Contained in these courses are 26 high quality videos on basic sailing maneuvers and knot tying, 19 animated gifs on sailboat docking and powerboat maneuvering, 15 JavaScript calculators on sail boat characteristics and navigation along with 18 narrative sections with illustrations. There are also 6 online boating tests which the student can take. The computer will grade each test and if passed print a certificate with the student's name on it.

It is suggested that beginning students be referred to www.sailingcourse.com to watch the sailing primer movie and to pass the primer sailing test before their on-the-water sailing instruction. The same can also be requested for the three other courses. Students can bring the printed certificate of completion with them before starting their on-the-water training. This will allow students to have a basic grasp of boating knowledge and to see videos of basic sailing maneuvers and knot tying before the start of their formal boating education.”
